Even more exciting than Gen Y is Gen C (although there does seem to be some overlap). These guys are used to being in control of their media (which is a massive part of their lives) and take those same expectations into the workplace. (For more on Gen C, see the entry in Wikipedia for Generation C)

At the same time, we have an aging workforce in NZ and possibly around the world. The December (I think?) issue of Management Magazine talks about the redefinition of retirement.

So from these two opposite ends - the young people entering the workforce, and older people staying in the workforce, the solution can be the same: flexible, self-directed jobs. More entrepreneurial in nature where employees have more control but also more responsibility.
